Tea is still grown in the misty mountains of Japan and is a highly regarded delicacy. It's hardly surprising then that the orange-red blooms of the tea bush adorn teapots, tea cups and matchawan.
This wide bowl is the shape and style of a traditional Japanese 'matchawan' tea bowl used for preparing and drinking matcha tea in the Japanese tea ceremony.
The base colour of this ceramic bowl is off-white and features a hand painted mountain tea, or 'yamacha', flower decoration in orange-red with blue and green details. The speckled, crackle effect glaze give it an individual look with a warm, traditional aesthetic.
The large size of the bowl also makes it useful for general tableware and this type of bowl is often used for serving rice, soup and other side dishes as well as snacks and desserts.
The bowl measures 14.5cm in diameter (about 5¾") and 7.5cm high (about 3"). It holds about 350 ml of fluid (about 12 fl oz).
Each bowl is individually packaged in a black gift box. Because of the hand painted design and rustic glaze effects, each item may differ slightly from that shown in the pictures.
Not recommended for dishwasher or microwave.
