Ready to go big? Whether you're preparing a fragrant curry paste, crushing toasted sesame seeds or making enough pesto to feed the whole family, this extra large suribachi is ready for the challenge.
The authentic Japanese design of this traditional ceramic suribachi mortar features beautiful unglazed interior ridges, known as kushi-no-me, for effortless grinding, mashing and mixing. The exterior has a swash of semi-matte black glaze, applied by hand, which reaches into the top of the bowl.
Unlike smooth stone mortars, the sharp ridges of this Japanese bowl easily catch and grind tough ingredients like sesame seeds, nuts and spices. They also make easy work of gently crushing fresh herbs such as basil, oregano or shiso leaf.
The set comes complete with a hinoki wood surikogi, the traditional wooden pestle designed to grind efficiently without damaging the bowl's ridges.
In a generous XL size, this elegantly designed suribachi and surikogi are a great addition for prepping your favourite Japanese and Western dishes.
The ceramic bowl measures about 19cm (7½") in diameter and stands at 9cm (3½") high.
The wooden pestle measures 18cm (just over 7") long and about 3cm (approx. 1¼") diameter at the widest end, tapering to 2.25cm (1⅞") at the narrower end.
