In Japanese culture, cranes stand for peace, longevity and good luck. Imagine including those sentiments when you give a small gift!
This traditional Japanese wrapping cloth depicts an elegant scene of two red-crowned cranes against the backdrop of Mount Fuji in the red glow of sunset.
Furoshiki have several uses but have gained popularity recently as reusable gift wrap, cutting down on waste and non-recyclable wrap. In Japan, it's the custom to return the cloth to the giver but you might like to include this beautiful one as part of the gift.
Furoshiki can also be folded to make a useful carrier, a wrapping for your lunch box or decorative handbag. The gorgeous pictorial design of this Japanese cloth would also make a lovely wall hanging.
You can read more about the tradition of using furoshiki in my blog.
This smaller sized furoshiki measures 50cm x 50cm (about 20" square) and is made from 100% cotton.
Made in Japan.
