These colourful koi carp streamers celebrate Children's Day in Japan and they represent strength, determination and courage. Young or old, what an inspiring message to send!
This traditional Japanese wrapping cloth features a bright scene of 'koinobori' flags waving in the breeze against a pale blue sky. The picture sits on a dark indigo blue background with a geometric pattern in pale blue and white.
Furoshiki have several uses but have gained popularity recently as reusable gift wrap, cutting down on waste and non-recyclable wrap. In Japan, it's the custom to return the cloth to the giver but you might like to include this beautiful one as part of the gift.
Furoshiki can also be folded to make a useful carrier, a wrapping for your lunch box or to fashion pretty handbag. This decorative Japanese design would also make a lovely wall hanging.
You can read more about the tradition of using furoshiki in my blog.
This smaller sized furoshiki measures 50cm x 50cm (about 20" square) and is made from 100% cotton.
