Icy white flowers cluster into large round blooms just like snowballs... or fluffy rice maybe!
This simple bowl has an earthy rustic feel with its grey-brown base colour adorned with large white and blue flowers across the inner surface. The outer surface has a plain, slightly speckled glaze. The gentle style and soft colours have an old fashioned 'zakka' look straight from rural Japan.
The painted flowers are styled on those of the Japanese Snowball tree (Viburnum Plicatum or オオデマリ [ōdemari] in Japanese), whose large blooms are made up of bright white individual flowers. Like ice and snow, in bright light you can see a bluey whiteness in the shadows and gaps between.
This bowl is a typical Japanese rice bowl shape, just right for a serving of rice with your meal but it would also make a pretty dish for side servings of soup, salad and vegetables. In addition for me, it's perfect for ice cream, sorbet and other desserts!
The height of the bowl is just over 5cm (2") and 13.7cm (almost 5½") in diameter.
Safe for microwave and dishwasher.
